University president. Correspondence (1899–1943) between Boyd, his family, and others, including Edward E. Dale, William B. Bizzell, and George B. Parker, regarding the establishment of the University of Oklahoma, its formative years, and the tenure of Boyd as its first president; speeches (n.d.) delivered by Boyd regarding the university and its early faculty and personalities; newspaper clippings (n.d.) regarding Boyd and the university; contracts (1892) signed by Boyd and the university’s Board of Regents hiring him as president; certificates (1903–1924) of appreciation and recognition awarded Boyd by institutions and organizations; obituaries and memorials (1936–1937) of Boyd; genealogies of the Boyd and Ross families; event programs (1900–1909) recording university fine arts, athletic, baccalaureate and commencement activities, as well as those of the Norman, Oklahoma, chapters of the Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A.; songs, music, and yells (circa 1905) of the University of Oklahoma; and posters (1902–1907) advertising University of Oklahoma football games and fine arts events. Also included in this collection is a manuscript by Mary Alice Boyd, daughter of David Ross Boyd, describing the Boyds’ life in Arkansas City, Kansas, their move to Oklahoma Territory, and their impressions of and experiences in early Norman, Oklahoma, and at the University of Oklahoma, with accounts of tornadoes, lawless Indians, racial tension, and personalities.
