Description
Soldier. A handwritten journal (1876–1877) kept by Sheldon A. Keeny as a soldier in the 4th Cavalry Regiment of the U.S. Army. The journal entries document a brief period of his service during the Indian Wars, beginning with his company’s departure from Fort D. A. Russell in Wyoming, traveling to Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and various tours as they began gathering Native Americans to take them to Fort Robinson, Nebraska Territory. The collection also includes a typescript of the journal, one of Keeny’s calling cards, and newspaper clippings.
