Description
Army surgeon. Correspondence (1866–1868) to and from Reagles regarding personal matters, his assignment at Fort Arbuckle, Indian Territory, and some Indians with whom he had contact. The collection also contains Reagles’s diary (1864–1867), in which he recorded his experiences as a U.S. Army surgeon in Virginia during the Civil War, and his post-war experiences with the U.S. Tenth Cavalry at Fort Arbuckle, including English translations of Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Comanche words, impressions of Indian tribes, and a sketch of a Caddo village.
