The manuscript regarding Haynes details his experiences as a jockey in Oklahoma, California, Mexico, France, and Germany, and describes with clarity the history of Germany as observed by Haynes from the mid-1920s through World War II, including accounts of his visit with President Paul von Hindenburg, the burning of the Reichstag in Berlin in 1933, and Haynes’s flight from the Nazis in 1939.
