Description
The general correspondence files, containing primarily correspondence and letters, reflect the activities in the President's Office under Brooks' tenure during the years between 1917 and 1923. Folders are arranged alphabetically by subject within two groupings of years: 1917 to 1922 and 1922 to 1923. Presently, comparable records for the years between 1912 and 1917 are not present and unaccounted for. Destruction of the records by fire could have been possible. However, the two major fires on campus which burned the Administration Hall (University Hall) took place on January 6, 1903 and December 20, 1907. The new administration building was not occupied until the spring of 1912, the time of Brooks’ arrival.
Letters of Recommendation to State Board of Education, dating between 1912 and 1917, are copies of letters by Brooks sent to the State Board recommending and requesting actions with regard to such things as faculty appointments, leaves of absences, salary increases, and fees and schedules.
