Description
These are the subject files of the Dean of Men, later Counselor of Men. They span the administration of five Deans including Dean James F. Findlay (1929-1940), Acting Dean C.C. Bush, Jr. (1940-1942), Counselor Fayette Copeland (1941-1945), Counselor William J. Mellor (1945-1947), and Acting Counselor Victor E. Ricks (1947-1948). From the General Catalog for 1930 page 26, the dean of men and dean of women desired “to be helpful in the solution of the personal problems of the students, as well as in their curricular difficulties and their social activities.” Their offices were the point of clearance for all student affairs. They gave attention to freshman students and acted as interpreters of university regulations.
