Description
Financier. Correspondence (1888–1921); news clippings (1896–1921); scrapbooks (1896–1917); and broadsides, regarding Turner’s life, his campaign for election as U.S. senator from Oklahoma, his involvement in the world of finance, both in Oklahoma Territory and elsewhere, and his death. A number of the clippings pertain to the economic climate, politics, and living conditions in Oklahoma Territory. Of special note are letters (1916–1920) addressed to Turner from Brig. Gen. John J. Pershing requesting Turner’s assistance and influence in obtaining a promotion to major general. One letter is addressed from the headquarters of the U.S. Army Punitive Expedition in Mexico, and others are from Europe, sent by Pershing while commander-in-chief of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I.
