Correspondence (1921–1956) relating to Wardell’s service as a professor of history and an assistant to the president of the University of Oklahoma, and concerning student affairs, foreign students, curriculum, academic department administration, military training, housing, the University of Oklahoma during World War II, post-war planning, and legislative matters, as well as Wardell’s involvement in civic organizations, his teaching, and his publishing activities; reports (1929–1945) from the deans, personnel department, registrar’s office, and academic departments of the University of Oklahoma; and lecture notes, research materials, and manuscripts relating to the Cherokee Indians, and specifically to Wardell’s book Political History of the Cherokee Nation (University of Oklahoma Press, 1938), to the Osage Indians, to historic sites in Oklahoma, and to the history of the West in general.
